1962 Ernie’s son-in-law, Chuck Erwin opened Bear Valley Ace Hardware in Denver, Colorado. From 1962-1964 Ron worked for his father Chuck at Bear Valley Ace Hardware. In 1972 Ron opened Fraser Valley Ace Hardware in Fraser, Colorado. Ron owned and operated Fraser Valley Ace Hardware until 1978 when he sold the store. Ron moved to Denver and became a partner with his father at Bear Valley Ace Hardware. In 1984 Ron purchased Bear Valley Ace Hardware from his father. In 1991 Ron purchased the 16,000 square feet Green Mountain Ace Hardware in Lakewood, Colorado.
With the support of the Ace Hardware Corporation in 1995, Ron’s 16,000 square foot hardware store become at 20,000 square foot “Ace, Store of the Future”. Expanding core departments, providing larger shopping isles, and brighter lighting, this “Ace, Store of the Future” became an example of the direction the Ace Hardware Corporation was taking the future of the independent hardware enterpurneur. In 1999, seeing an opportunity to better serve his customers, Ron and his staff at Green Mountain Ace Hardware underwent another remodel. This time growing from 20,000 square feet to 26,000 square feet.
Once again in 2002 Ron and his team decided to grow. This time expanding into the Outdoor Living and Patio Furniture categories. In 2003 Todd Erwin, Ron’s youngest son, decided to continue the family tradition, and went into business with his father.
Today, at 32,000 square feet, Green Mountain Ace Hardware boasts the largest selection of hardware, paint, tools, lawn and garden, patio furniture and outliving items in Colorado. Serving over 300,000 customers each year, Ron and Todd Erwin along with their staff of over 50 qualified guest service representatives are here for you and your home and garden needs.
